it in mosque in basrah, iraq. imam ali ibn abi talib giving talk. said of should recite du of prophet khidr. du should recited either on 15th of shaban (islamic month), or on thursday night, or whenever can. du removes evils life, removes forms of envy, , removes suffering exist in life.

after group of companions heard du a, left go home. kumayl said, stayed behind. said o amir al-momineen can teach me du a? because don t want listen du a, want make sure du spreads in lives of people ever . imam ali told kumayl, allah may protect thee evils of enemies , plots contrived impostors. o kumayl! in consideration of thy companionship , understanding, grant thee honour of entrusting du thee. kumayl wrote down supplication preserve it.

o allah! bless muhammad , progeny.

o allah! beseech thee thy mercy encompasses things, , thy power thou overcometh things, , submit things, , humble before things, , thy might thou hast conquered things, , thy majesty against nothing can stand up. , thy grandeur prevails upon things, , thy authority exercised on things, , thy own self shall endure forever after things have vanished, , thy names manifest thy power on things, , thy knowledge pervades things, , light of thy countenance illuminates o thou art light!

o thou art holy! o thou existed before foremost! o thou shall exist after last!

o allah! forgive me such sins affront continency o allah! forgive me such sins bring down calamity. o allah! forgive me such sins change divine favours disfavours. o allah! forgive me such sins hinder supplication. o allah! forgive me such sins bring down misfortunes or afflictions. o allah! forgive such sins suppress hope.

o allah! forgive every sin have committed , every error have erred. o allah! endeavor draw myself nigh thee through thy invocation, , pray thee intercede on behalf, , entreat thee thy benevolence draw me nearer thee. , grant me should grateful thee, , inspire me remember , invoke thee.

o allah! entreat thee begging thee submissively, humbly , awestruck, treat me clemency , mercy, , make me pleased , contented thou hast allotted me, , cause me modest , unassuming in circumstances.

o allah! beg thee 1 passing through extreme privation, , supplicates needs thee, , hope has been raised thee.

o allah! great thy kingdom , exalted thy greatness. thy plan secret, thy authority manifest, thy might victorious , subduing, , thy power prevalent throughout. , not possible escape thy dominion

o allah! except thee not find 1 able pardon sins nor conceal loathsome acts. nor have 1 except thee change evil deeds virtues. there no god thou. glory , praise thee. have made own soul suffer> had audacity (to sin) ignorance, relying upon past remembrance of thee , thy grace towards me.

o allah! lord! how many of loathsome acts hast thou screened (from public gaze)? how many of grievous afflictions (distresses) hast thou reduced in severity? , how many of stumbling hast thou protected? how many of detestable acts has thou averted, , how many of undeserving praises hast thou spread abroad!?

o allah! trials , sufferings have increased, , evilness has worsened. deeds have diminished , yokes (of misdeeds) have become firm. , remote hopes restrain me profit (by deeds). , world has deceived me allurements, , own self has been affected treachery , procrastination. therefore, lord! implore thee thy greatness not let sins , misdeeds shut out access prayers reaching thy realm. , not disgrace me exposing (hidden ones) of thou hast knowledge, nor hasten retribution vices , misdeeds committed me in secret, due evil mindedness, ignorance, excessive lustfulness , negligence.

o allah! beg thee thy greatness compassionate me in circumstances, , disposed towards me in matters. god! nourisher! have except thee whom can seek dislodging of evils , understanding of problems? god! master! thou decreed law me instead obeyed own low desires, , did not guard myself against allurements of enemy. deceived me vain hopes whereby led astray, , fate helped him in respect. transgressed of limits set me thee, , disobeyed of thy commandments. thou hast therefore (just) cause against me in matters, , have no plea against thy judgment passed against me. have therefore become (justifiably) liable thy judgment , afflictions.

but have turned thee, lord, after being guilty of omissions , transgressions against soul, apologetically, repentantly, brokenheartedly, entreating earnestly forgiveness, yielding, , confessing (to guilt). can find no escape done me, , having no refuge turn except seeking thy acceptance of excuse, , admitting me realm of thy capacious mercy.

o allah! accept apology , have pity on intense sufferings, , set me free heavy fetters (of evil deeds). nourisher! have mercy on infirmity of body, delicacy of skin, , brittleness of bones.

o thou! originated creation , accorded me individuality, , ensured upbringing , welfare, , provided sustenance, beg thee restore thy favours , blessings upon me thou didst in beginning of life.

o god! master! lord! , nourisher! what! wilt thou see me punished fire kindled thee, despite belief in thy unity? , despite fact heart has been filled pure knowledge of thee, , when tongue has repeatedly praised thee, , conscience has acknowledged thy love, , despite sincere confessions (of sins), , humble entreaties submissively made thy divinity?

nay, thou art far kind , generous destroy 1 whom thyself nourished , supported, or drive away thyself 1 whom thou has kept under thy protection, or scare away 1 whom thy self hast given shelter, or abandon in affliction 1 thou hast maintained , whom thou hast been merciful. wish had known o master, god , lord! wilt thou inflict fire upon faces have submissively bowed in prostration thy greatness, or upon tongues have sincerely confirmed thy unity, , have expressed gratitude thee, or upon hearts have acknowledged thy divinity conviction, or upon minds accumulated knowledge of thee until became submissive thee, or upon limbs strove, @ places appointed thy worship, adore thee willingly, , seek thy forgiveness submissively? such sort of harshness not expected thee remote thy grace, o generous one!

o lord! thou art aware of weakness bear minor affliction of world, , consequence, , adversity affecting denizen of earth, although such afflictions momentary, short-lived , transient. how can bear retributions , punishments of hereafter enormous , of intensive sufferings, of prolonged period , perpetual duration, , shall never alleviated deserve same retributions result of thy wrath; , thy punishment neither heavens nor earth can withstand , bear! lord! how can i, weak, insignificant, humble, poor , destitute creature of thine able bear them?

o god! lord! king! , master! of matters shall complain thee, , of them shall bewail , weep? shall bewail pains , pangs of punishment , intensity, or length of sufferings , duration? therefore lord! if thou wilt subject me penalties of hell in company of thy enemies, , cast me merited thy punishments, , tear me apart thy friends , near thee, god, lord , master, though may patiently bear thy punishments, how can calmly accept being kept away thee? reckon though may patiently endure scorching fire of thy hell, yet how can resign myself denial of thy pity , clemency? how can remain in fire while have hopes of thy forgiveness?

o lord! thy honour swear that, if thou wilt allow power of speech retained me in hell, shall among inmates cry out bewailingly unto thee cry of have faith in thy kindness , compassion. , shall bemoan thee, being deprived of nearness thee, lamentation of bereaved, , shall keep on calling unto thee: art thou o friend of believers! o thou art last hope , resort of acknowledge thee , have faith in thy clemency , kindness. o thou art helper of seeking help! o thou art dear hearts of believe in thee! , o thou art lord of universe.

my lord! glory , praise thee. wouldst thou wish seen disregarding voice of muslim bondman, incarcerated therein hell disobedience, , imprisoned within pits evil doings , misdeeds, crying out thee utterance of 1 has faith in thy mercy, , calling out thee in language of believe in thy unity, , seeking approach thee means of thy epithet creator, nourisher, accomplisher, , protector of entire existence?

my lord! how remain in torments when relies upon thy past forbearance, compassion , mercy? , how can fire cause him suffering when hopes thy grace , mercy? , how can roaring flames char him when thou heareth voice , seeith plight? , how can withstand roaring flames when thou knowest frailty? , how can tossed between layers when thou knoweth sincerity? , how can guards of hell threaten him when calls out thee? lord , , how thou abandon him therein (the hell) when has faith in thy grace set him free?

alas! not concept hold of thee, nor has thy grace such reputation, nor resemble thou hast awarded thy kindness , generosity believe in thy unity. conclude hadst thou not ordained punishment disbelieved in thee, , hadst thou not decreed thy enemies remain in hell, thou wouldst have made hell cold , peaceful , there never have been abode or place 1 in it; sanctified thy names, thou hast sworn fill hell disbelievers among jinns , mankind together, , place forever thy enemies therein. , thou, exalted thy praises, hadst made manifest, out of thy generosity , kindness, believer not unto him evil-liver.

my lord! master! i, therefore implore thee power thou determineth, , decree thou hast finalised , ordained, whereby thou hath prevailed upon whom thou hast imposed it, bestow upon me night, , hour, forgiveness transgressions have been guilty of, sins have committed, loathsome acts have kept secret, , evils done me, secretly or openly, in concealment or outwardly. , every evil action thou hast ordered 2 noble scribes confirm, whom thou hast appointed record actions, , witnesses on me along limbs of body, while thou observeth on me besides them, , witness acts concealed them. thou in thy mercy hast kept secret, , through thy kindness unexposed, , pray thee make share plentiful in thou dost bestow; in favours thou dost grant; , in virtues thou dost allow known everywhere; , in sustenance , livelihood thou dost expand , in respect of sins thou dost forgive , wrongs thou dost cover o lord! o lord! o lord!

o god! lord! king! o master of freedom! o thou holdeth destiny, , art aware of suffering , poverty, o thou knoweth destitution , starvation. o lord! o lord, o lord! beseech thee thy glory , thy honour, thy supremely high attributes, , thy names, cause me utilise time, day , night, in thy remembrance, engaging myself in serving thee (thy cause), , let deeds such acceptable thee. so actions , offerings (prayers) may transformed 1 continuous , sustained effort, , life may take form of constant , perpetual service thee.

o master! o thou upon whom rely! o thou unto whom express distress!

o lord! lord! lord! strengthen limbs thy service, , sustain strength of hands persevere in thy service. , bestow upon me eagerness fear thee , serve thee may lead myself towards thee in field vanguards in fore rank. , swift towards thee among hasten towards thee, , urge eagerly near thee. , draw myself towards thee them sincerely draw towards thee. , fear thee fear of believe firmly in thee. , may join congregation of faithful congregated near thee protection.

o allah! whosoever intendeth evil against me, let ill befall him, , frustrate him plots against me. , assign me place in thy presence best of thy bondsmen, , nearer abode thee. verily position cannot attained except through thy grace. , treat me benevolently, , through thy greatness extend thy munificence towards me. , through thy mercy protect me , cause tongue accentuate thy remembrance, , heart filled thy love. , liberal me thy gracious response, , cause evils appear fewer , forgive me errors. verily, thou hast ordained thy bondsmen thy worship , bidden them supplicate unto thee , hast assured them of thy response.

so, lord! earnestly towards thee, , towards thee, lord! have stretched forth hands. therefore, thy honour, respond supplication , let me attain wishes and, thy bounty, frustrate not hopes, , protect me evils of enemies, among jinns , mankind. o thou! readily pleased, forgive 1 owns nothing supplication thou doest thou willest.

o thou! name remedy ills, , remembrance sure cure ailments, , obedience whom makes 1 self sufficient, have mercy on 1 asset hope, , armour lamentation. o thou! perfecteth bounties , wardeth off misfortunes!

o light! illuminates in bewilderment! o omniscient! knoweth without (acquisition of) learning! bless mohammed , descendants of mohammed, , unto me in accordance befitteth thee. , deal me not in accordance worth. may blessings of allah bestowed upon apostle, , rightful imams descendants. , peace upon them plentifully.
