history
cradley heath speedway team formed in 1947 , first raced @ dudley wood stadium on 21 june 1947 after number of away appearances prior opening of newly built stadium. after closure @ end of 1952 season track reopened in 1959 1 unlicensed meeting , in 1960 heathens entered newly formed provincial league. club operated continuously, - @ top flight level 1965 -, until 1995 when evicted new landlords had bought stadium redevelop housing. team survived 1 additional year, competing @ loomer road stadium in stoke in 1996 under name cradley , stoke heathens. club 1 of successful in sport throughout 1980s, winning british league in 1981 , 1983 , 8 knockout cup competitions. 7 speedway world championships won cradley riders between 1981 , 1996.
revival
supporters of club campaigned resurrect speedway in local area. plans submitted dudley council new site. birmingham brummies promoter, tony mole , bob edwards (on behalf of supporters group, crash – cradley raising aid saving heathens) led planning application , hoped team return racing in 2009. there online petition show support application linked cradley heath speedway website.
the heathens returned in 2010 changed name. cradley name changed dudley heathens temporarily until new stadium found call own. joined national league , home meetings shared between 2 stadiums – monmore green (home track of wolverhampton wolves) , perry bar stadium (home track of birmingham brummies). team manager pottinger, , club promoted sky sports speedway presenter nigel pearson, , chris van straaten & gary patchett. between 2011 , 2014 home matches solely @ monmore green, @ end of 2014 season announced unable continue racing @ monmore green , deal agreed go perry barr stadium in birmingham 2015 season. proved short lived , @ end of 2015 season, agreement reached wolverhampton wolves , cradley heathens ride on alternate monday s @ monmore green. on july 4th 2017 heathens speedway supporters trust lodged outline planning application sandwell mbc sports & recreation village include speedway small part of whole project on land @ lion farm playing fields has covenant on recreation & sport.

the team name taken dudley wood stadium s proximity cradley heath town centre, though lies in borough of dudley, centred 3 miles (4.8 km) away. @ time of formation 2 towns in different counties - staffordshire , worcestershire, both towns part of county of west midlands. cradley team took nickname cubs during 1949 season, having gained promotion national league division 3 national league division two, adopted name of cradley heathens, retained through final days in 1996 period of 1973-76 when raced cradley united , 1996 when became cradley , stoke , raced in stoke. club revived dudley heathens in 2010, reverting cradley heathens after 2013 season.
