high schools

students attend classes on home campus, have opportunities take additional, specialized courses @ lcps s magnet , alternative schools, such science , math @ loudoun academy of science , vocational education classes @ c.s. monroe technology center.


each school s instructional curriculum set lcps district office based on virginia department of education requirements. there eleven academic departments, each supervised department head (usually teacher):



the core courses of english, mathematics, science , social science typically have tracks or sequences determined grade level (e.g. english 9, english 10, english 11, etc.; , earth science, biology, chemistry, etc.). true of other course groups well, such world languages, physical education , fine arts. additionally, many of core courses further arranged basic/general, academic, honors , advanced placement (ap) classifications. each classification denotes progressively more challenging level of instruction, although distinction between honors , ap blurred.



english: includes basic/general, academic, honors levels grades (with honors replaced ap in 12th grade. electives, including composition, journalism, etymology, public speaking, , world literature offered.
mathematics: includes algebra 1 & 2, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus , calculus*, computer science*, probability , statistics*, , discrete math (* ap level offered).
science: includes earth science, biology, chemistry, physics. ap level courses offered in biology, physics , chemistry.
social science: includes world history, virginia , history, , government. electives offered in comparative religions, economics, contributions of ethnic groups in america, philosophy, psychology , sociology. ap classes provided government, history , world history.
fine arts: includes 4 progressive levels of art studies.
world languages: includes american sign language, french, german, latin, spanish , mandarin chinese.
career , technical: includes desktop/multimedia presentations, computer information systems, accounting, business management , business law.

students attending loudoun academy of science @ dominion high school in sterling , c.s. monroe technology center in leesburg every other class day, taking non-magnet classes (typically core courses, such english, social sciences , electives) @ home campuses on alternate days.


specialized programs

nearly lcps schools offer full english second language program, students native language not english , not speak and/or read english well. school assessment purposes, these learners referred limited english proficient or lep students.


special education

lcps offers wide range of special education programs students have minor learning disabilities mild moderate mental retardation in schools. if student severely mentally impaired, or attends special county wide program @ loudoun county high school or heritage high school.
