in jltv s initial capability document (icd) there 4 payload options, later reduced three, payload categories a, b, , c. transportable externally ch-47 , ch-53 helicopters , internally c-130 aircraft.

general purpose mobility: general purpose mobility (jltv-a-gp) variant in payload category a, designed general purpose utility vehicle use army , marine corps, four-person capacity. unlike other variants, c-130 capable of transporting 2 vehicles @ time.

payload category b vehicles fill role of force application payload capacity of 4,000–4,500 lb (1,800–2,000 kg).



infantry carrier: infantry carrier (jltv-b-ic) had 6-person capacity, , designed carry fire-team of troops. each service may have received different vehicle, or have used same configuration.
reconnaissance, scout: six-seat configuration use u.s. army.
reconnaissance, knight: six-seat configuration use u.s. army.
command , control on move: four-seat command , control (jltv-b-c2otm) configuration use u.s. army.
heavy guns carrier: heavy guns carrier use u.s. army , marine corps convoy escort, military police, , patrol 4 seats , gunner position.

ambulance: higher capacity ambulance configuration use u.s. army , marine corps. 3 seats , 4 litters.

by time capability development document (cdd) version 3.3 published @ conclusion of jltv s technology development (td) phase, payload options had been reduced 2 , payload verbiage had been dropped, replaced reference variants. point on 2 stated variants required, combat tactical vehicle (ctv) , combat support vehicle (csv).


the previous category b variant eliminated because proved heavy meet required weight of approximately 15,639 lb make transportable army ch-47f , marine corps ch-53k heavy-lift helicopters.


the combat tactical vehicle (ctv) configuration replaced previous category , category b configurations , 4-seat vehicle 3,500-pound payload. combat support vehicle (csv) replaced previous category c configuration , 2-seat vehicle 5,100-pound payload. ctv , csv variants appeared in cdd version 3.3 had requirements configurations. configuration refers different types of mission packages installed each of 2 variants. cdd version 3.3 required 6 configurations. cdd version 3.6 published entry emd phase in august, reducing 6 4 total number of configurations required.
