the ability perceive world in 3 dimensions , estimate size , distance object depends heavily on depth cues. 2 major depth cues, stereopsis , motion parallax, both rely on parallax difference between perceived position of object given 2 different viewpoints. in stereopsis distance between eyes source of 2 different viewpoints, resulting in binocular disparity. motion parallax relies head , body movement produce necessary viewpoints.
